ST. LOUIS - A former inspector with the Missouri State Highway Patrol admitted Tuesday in federal court to accepting thousands of dollars in cash bribes over false vehicle certifications.Prosecutors with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Missouri said Larry Conrad, 67, worked as a supervisor motor vehicle inspector for the MSHP. It was Conrad's job to perform inspections at the patrol's Troop C facility in south St. Louis County. The inspections do not require a fee. If the vehicle passes, an inspector signs off on it and certifies forms, so owners can apply for a title with the state. Gardner won’t be held in contempt, judge rules However, Conrad would accept bribes ranging from $40 to $160 in cash to pass vehicles and lie on certificates to say vehicles had no damage. He'd do this whether he saw the vehicle or not. In one case, at least one car was not drivable.Conrad netted more than $14,000 as part of his scheme, prosecutors said. Overly critical of pregnancy resource centersRe: “Colorado will protect pregnant women,” April 16 editorialGov. Jared Polis and Democratic state legislators squandered a chance to demonstrate that they are truly in favor of choice and not simply pro-abortion.Some women immediately believe they have made a horrible mistake after taking the first pill in the two-pill medication abortion regimen. Until Senate Bill 23-190 was signed into law, they were able to access the abortion pill reversal regimen that utilizes natural progesterone to mitigate the abortifacient effects of mifepristone. This doubled their chances of having a continuing pregnancy based on robust, multifaceted evidence accumulated over the past 17 years. Now women in Colorado are effectively told that they can’t withdraw their consent from the medication abortion procedure. SB 190 cruelly gives them only two options – to finish their abortion and kill their wanted baby or omit the second abortion pill, misop...Cale Makar suspended one game for hit on Jared McCann in Game 4 of Avalanche-Kraken playoff series

Colorado defenseman Cale Makar has been suspended one game by the NHL, meaning he won’t be on the ice for a critical Game 5 vs. the Seattle Kraken on Wednesday at Ball Arena. The league Department of Player Safety held a hearing Tuesday morning with Makar after his Game 4 hit knocked out Jared McCann for at least the next game of this first-round series and “probably” longer than that, according to Kraken coach Dave Hakstol. Makar checked McCann into the end boards after a puck had floated out of play in the first period. McCann, Seattle’s leading scorer, needed to be helped off the ice. This is the first time Makar, 24, has faced a suspension or any supplemental discipline from the NHL.In a video released Tuesday afternoon explaining the suspension, Player Safety indicated it took into account the injury suffered by McCann on the play as well as Makar’s lack of previous on-ice transgressions.Colorado’s Cale Makar has been suspended for one playoff game for Interference a...Barbie reveals 1st doll with Down syndrome

Both directions of Sepulveda Boulevard under the 10 Freeway and 405 interchanges in Rancho Park remained closed Tuesday while crews worked to contain oil that was coming out of the ground at a rate of 3-5 gallons a minute, authorities said. Calls about the incident, located in the 2800 block of South Sepulveda Boulevard, came in just before 6 p.m. Monday, according to a Los Angeles Fire Department news release. It wasn't until shortly before noon on Tuesday that the seepage stopped, officials told KTLA.Fire officials believe a water pipe burst as well, further complicating the issue.Fire crews used nearby soil to create dams in an attempt to contain the leaking oil from spilling into storm drains. Authorities estimated that around 1,000 gallons of oil made its way out of the ground. “Only about 20-40 gallons escaped into the storm drain before firefighters contained the rest in the immediate area,” LAFD said. Crews attempt to mitigate an "oil-like" substance seeping up from th...Driver in fatal Uber autonomous crash set for June trial

PHOENIX (AP) — An Arizona Uber driver involved in the first death connected to a fully autonomous vehicle will be tried in June on a negligent homicide charge.Rafaela Vasquez, 49, previously had been scheduled for trial next month in the March 2018 crash that killed 49-year-old Elaine Herzberg as she walked a bicycle outside the lines of a crosswalk in Tempe, Arizona. Vasquez's trial was rescheduled during a brief hearing Tuesday.Vasquez, who has pleaded not guilty to the charge, told police Herzberg “came out of nowhere” and that she didn’t see her prior to the collision.Authorities say Vasquez was streaming the television show “The Voice” on a phone and looking downward in the moments before Uber’s Volvo XC-90 SUV collided with Herzberg. But Vasquez’s attorneys said their client was looking at a messaging activity used by Uber employees on a work cellphone that sat on her right knee. “The Voice” was playing on Vasquez’s personal cellphone, which was sitting on the passenger seat, ...Flame Bearers Offers Partnerships to Elevate Women in Sport
