ST. LOUIS – Persistent questions about conditions at the St. Louis Justice Center were part of the discussion during Monday night’s meeting of the City of St. Louis Department of Public Safety Detention Facilities Oversight Board. The board voted Monday to move forward with an investigation into the death of detainee Carlton Bernard. FOX 2 recently reported on how the board was surprised to hear about Bernard’s death. There was debate Monday over whether the committee could investigate at the same time the police are investigating and whether that would violate the ordinance creating the oversight board. In the end, board members voted to move forward. After the vote, board chair Rev. Darryl Gray said, “Our job is to ensure that the rights of detainees are not violated and that everyone who sets foot in that center, be a detainee, guard, or administrative staff, are safe and secure and that there’s no violation of their health.” Why Bob Barker did not play for the St. Louis Cardinals...Most of Jennings council boycotts meeting after ‘no confidence’ letter

JENNINGS, Mo. - The mayor of Jennings heard from supporters during a public hearing despite not having enough city councilmen to hold an official city council meeting. The majority of the council expressed confusion over the multiple different meeting agendas that had been posted in the hours prior.Councilwoman Nadia Quinn (Ward 4) said the meeting agenda was posted 24 hours in advance, in compliance with Missouri's Sunshine Law. However, there were multiple changes being made, and no one knew which agenda to follow.Quinn was one of five council members to boycott the meeting and did not attend because of the confusion. In the latest published agenda, it did not recognize a prior emergency meeting that was held on Aug. 18, where the council tried to reverse terminations and offer people their jobs back.Quinn said the majority of the council wanted to confirm Aug. 18's meeting minutes and make everything official."We're so tied up in trying to figure out how to hold a meeting and what'...Calls for urgency over deadly stretch of I-70 amid $2.8B infrastructure funding

WENZTVILLE, Mo. – A project that’s been in the works for decades received a shot in the arm Monday as Governor Mike Parson signed a $2.8 billion bill for the planned statewide expansion of Interstate 70.That includes a part of the interstate in Wentzville that some call the deadliest.Capacity, safety, and reliability are what MoDOT and its partners say sit at the forefront of the improvements they hope to make to the highway. While signs are pointing to serious advancements with the project that would redesign stretches of I-70, residents are just wondering why there wasn’t more urgency for the stretch of highway known as the S curve, which they say is one of the most dangerous parts of the road within the entire state.“Just beyond 20, I was driving home from work from Lambert Airport, when I came to the railroad bridge S-turn behind McDonald’s, I saw a large flash,” said Joe Tebo, a 45-year resident. What he saw next would haunt him for years to come.“There was a college girl sitti...Results of ‘sound study’ hold fate of country club’s pickleball project

KIRKWOOD, Mo. – On a beautiful morning to be outside, pickleball players were testing the new courts at Greenbriar Hills Country Club. The saga surrounding this development proves one group’s recreation is another’s frustration.“Greenbriar Hills Country Club knew ahead of time before they built their pickleball courts that it was going to be a nuisance to their neighbors,” Kirkwood resident Julie Missey said. “They had the evidence, yet they decided to build anyway.”Missey’s home in Kirkwood’s Osage Hills neighborhood backs up to Greenbriar Hills Country Club. When Rockies manager Bud Black said Monday afternoon that he was as content as he’d been all season with his pitching rotation, he was referring in large part to Austin Gomber.“Since the All-Star break, been pretty consistent,” Black said of his starters. “With the exception of a game or two here and there, all the games have been close. … That’s a reflection of our starting pitching, and maybe a little bit of our lack of run production.”Consistency collided with bad luck hours later at Coors Field.Gomber exited in the third inning of his start with an apparent injury, and the Rockies lost 14-4 in the series opener to the MLB-best Atlanta Braves, officially securing a losing season. Colorado (49-82) has lost seven of its last eight games.Gomber, who came in with a 5.48 ERA, had been finding his stride in recent months.
